A Guide to Pink Elephants (Books)

A Guide To Pink Elephants Published by Richards Rosen Assoc. Inc., N.Y. Volume I was published in 1952 and Volume II in 1957. Both of these drink guides contain 200 recipes, with the appropriate glass shown for each mixed drink. Illustrated, indexed and gift-boxed. It is interesting to note these guides do not include any Pink Elephant drink recipes, so we have provided a few for you to sample.

Popping Pink Elephants (Food Recipes)

:: Pink Elephant Popcorn:
   - 3 Tablespoons Butter
   - 1 1/2 Cups Miniature Marshmallows
   - 4 Tablespoons Strawberry Flavored Gelatin
   - 2 Quarts Popped Popcorn

Directions: Melt butter over low heat. Stir in the marshmallows until they are soft, but not melted. Add the strawberry flavored gelatin mix. Stir until everything is a pretty-in-pink color throughout. The gelatin may not completely dissolve, but that is okay. Pour mixture over the popcorn and stir until popcorn is evenly coated. Cool & Enjoy!

How Do You Catch A Pink Elephant? (Fun)

Elephant Trunk: A Cockney rhyming slang phrase meaning Drunk.
Elephant's Instep: Used to describe a wonderful or remarkable person or thing. Much like other expressions used during the 1920s flapper era such as the bee's knees, the cat's pajamas, the gnat's elbow, to name just a few.
Groucho Marx: "Last night I shot an elephant in my pajamas and how he got in my pajamas I'll never know."
So, How Do You Catch A Pink Elephant? You hide behind the bar and make a noise like a martini!

A Guide to Pink Elephants (Napkins)

A Guide To Pink Elephants Cocktail Napkins Published by Richards Rosen Assoc. Inc., New York in 1954. The box contained 36 cocktail napkins, with each one having a different illustrated elephant and related cocktail recipe. An extremely hard-to-find and very collectible barware item.
Origami Pink Elephant (Paper)

Pink Origami Elephant Some believe that paper folding was discovered first in China with the invention of paper in AD 105 and brought to Japan when the art of paper making was first introduced. Still others argue that origami is a Japanese invention and that there are no known Chinese records of early paper folding. Regardless of the difference of opinions, it is quite evident that the art of paper folding was most fully developed in Japan.

There are 18 steps in creating the pink elephant shown above. We've supplied the diagrams and instructions, you only need to provide a pack of pink paper and a peck of pachyderm patience.

Pink Elephants (Sheet Music)

Sheet Music for Pink Elephants  Composed by Mort Dixon and  Harry Woods, Guy Lombardo  made this song the bees knees  way back in 1932. A sampling of  some verse follows...

Yesterday a trav'ling salesman  came into my house.
He was just as shaky and as  nervous as a mouse.
He said: "I was at a party, we broke up at four;
When I woke up this morning, this is what I saw:

PINK ELEPHANTS on the table
PINK ELEPHANTS on the chair.
PINK ELEPHANTS on the ceiling,
PINK ELEPHANTS ev'rywhere.
I hid my head right in the bed and said a pray'r.
When I woke up again what do you think was there?
PINK ELEPHANTS on the ceiling,
PINK ELEPHANTS on the wall.
A lavender aligator was running around the hall.
Now I'm through making whoopee,
I raised my hand and swore
That I never intend to ever see
Those PINK ELEPHANTS any more.

PINK ELEPHANTS on the window
PINK ELEPHANTS on the sill
An elephant on the sideboard
Was kissing a whippoorwill.
I saw a monkey dancing with a purple cow
The cuckoo came out of the clock and said "me-ow".
PINK ELEPHANTS on my trousers
PINK ELEPHANTS on my coat.
A polka dot boa constrictor
Was shaving a billy goat.
A beetle laid beside me
And started in to snore
Oh, I never intend to ever see
Those PINK ELEPHANTS any more.
